Using an SSL at TechValleyHost.com

This document will answer your questions about our SSL certificate options.
Question:
What does SSL mean?

Answer:
SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It encrypts all data between our server where your site is stored, and the browser that the viewer is looking at.

Question:
How do I get access to the Shared SSL?

Answer:
The Shared SSL is $3 per month with our Value Standard and Value Developer packages. It comes free with all of our other plans. You will need to send email to support@techvalleyhost.com and request that SSL be set up, unless you have an e-commerce plan. SSL is automatically mapped for all e-commerce plans, and the URL is specified in the Miva Merchant setup mail we send.

Question:
What will the URL to my secure pages look like?

Answer:
Your Shared SSL URL will look like the following:

https://www##.safesecureweb.com/username

where '##' is a number generated by the server you are on, and 'username' is the username you are assigned at account setup. This information will be supplied to you once the Shared SSL is configured.

Question:
How do I get SSL that looks like https://www.mydomain.xyz?

Answer:
You will need to purchase a certificate that is configured specifically for your account from a certificate company. There are a number of certificate companies to choose from. We order all of our certificates through a company called Geotrust. The cost for this certificate is $150 for the year. This includes the purchase of the certificate as well as the installation. If you prefer to order the certificate on your own we will first need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) which we will send to you. You then send this to the certificate company and once they created the certificate you send that back to us and we install it for you. The cost for the CSR and installation is $35 for the year. There will be an additional charge from the certificate company for the certificate. If you would like to purchase a certificate for your site please contact us either by phone or email us a to support@techvalleyhost.com

Question:
How do I upload to my secure site?

Answer:
All of the material in your regular directory is mapped to your secure site. This means that you don't have to upload to a separate FTP address for your pages to be secure. All of your web will be secure from the secure URL.

For example, https://www1.safesecureweb.com/yourname/ will point to your index page. If you have a page in your root directory called mypage.htm, the secure link for it would be https://www1.safesecureweb.com/yourname/mypage.htm.

Question:
How do I link my regular pages to my secure pages?

Answer:
You would link your secure pages the same way you would your non-secure pages, except using the secure links as described above.
